Storage & limits

Every photo, drawing and document you upload counts towards your workspace's storage allowance. Here's how the allowance works and how to add more room when you need it.

BuilderDash keeps a running total of how much space your files are using and shows it against what your plan includes. When you're close to the limit, you'll see a warning, and when you need more room, you can add extra storage in a couple of clicks.

How storage works

Every account comes with 10 GB of storage included as standard. Each file you upload - photos, drawings, documents - adds its own size to your running total the moment it's saved, and deleting a file removes its size again. The total is the combined size of all your files across every job in your workspace.

To keep the figure accurate over time, BuilderDash also does a full recount every night, adding up the true size of all your files and correcting the running total if it's drifted.

How to add more storage

If you're running low, the workspace owner can add extra storage from the Billing screen:

  1. Go to Settings, then Billing.
  2. Find the Storage section. It shows how much space you've used, how much is included, and the percentage you're currently using as a bar.
  3. Pick one of the larger storage options shown beneath the usage bar.
  4. Confirm your choice. The extra space is added to your account straight away, and the cost is added to your existing monthly bill, adjusted fairly for the part-month.
  5. If you no longer need the extra space, switch back to the included allowance from the same screen at any time. Your allowance returns to the standard amount.

Only the workspace owner can buy, change or remove storage, and you'll need an active subscription with a payment card on file before you can add it.

Good to know

  • Extra storage comes in a single tier at a time: an extra 50 GB, 250 GB or 1 TB on top of your included allowance. You can't stack several add-ons together.
  • When you reach 80% of your allowance, the Billing screen shows a warning prompting you to add storage so you can keep uploading without interruption.
  • If you reach your full allowance, you're not cut off immediately. There's a 10% buffer above your limit so you can keep uploading a little further while your account is flagged as over its allowance.
  • Once you go beyond that buffer, new uploads are turned away with a message telling you storage is full and to add more space. Your existing files stay exactly where they are.
  • Deleting files is never blocked, even when you're full, so you can always free up space by clearing out files you no longer need.

Common questions

How much storage do I get included?
Every BuilderDash account includes 10 GB of storage as standard, shared across all your jobs.
What happens if I go over my storage allowance?
You get a 10% buffer above your limit so you're not cut off immediately. Beyond that buffer, new uploads are refused until you add more storage or delete files, though your existing files are never affected.
Who can add or change storage plans?
Only the workspace owner can buy, change or remove extra storage, and you'll need an active subscription with a payment card on file.
Can I combine multiple storage add-ons?
No, only one extra storage tier - 50 GB, 250 GB or 1 TB - can be active at a time on top of your included allowance.
